Here, he was given the opportunity to roll out the New Year, by sharing his expertise in running a successful, independent rug business.
A bespoke Diamond Jubilee Embroidery especially designed, crafted and bequeathed by Anas and Sandre of The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd of Wey Hill, Haslemere, was formally presented and unveiled by the High Sheriff of Surrey Mrs Karin Sehmer, as the honoured representative for and on behalf of Her Majesty Queen, accompanied by the Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey Colonel Nicolas Davies, and accepted by Haslemere’s Madam Mayor Cllr. Cyndy Lancaster on behalf of the Town and its Council, as the embroidery's custodians in perpetuity.
In celebration of Her Majesty the Queen's 60 years of sovereign reign and to commemorate the Royal Diamond Jubilee in 2012, Anas and Sandre of The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd were honoured to design and create a unique bespoke Diamond Jubilee embroidery, especially commissioned for the occasion, as a ‘Gift for the Queen’.

The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd has long supported Wey Hill in Bloom’s efforts to create beautiful floral displays in Wey Hill and Junction Place. From the association’s initial inception and earliest beginnings in 2009 to the present day, the Rug Gallery has continued to offer its help, provide much-needed monetary donations and bequeath specifically-sourced items, such as the Water Wheel and the hand-woven Auktchi Rug raffle prize, in a bid to help raise vital funds for WiB’s efforts in Serving the Community through Floral Displays!
With a request to help promote the blooms in Wey Hill, The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd presented Weyhill In Bloom (WiB) with a hand-woven Auktchi Rug, especially chosen by Anas and Sandre from their Treasure Trove of individually-sourced Weavings, as a bequeathed 'feature prize' for the WiB’s forthcoming raffle.
A visit to see Anas Al Akhoann at The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd by Mr & Mrs Lawrence earlier this week, through a family friend’s recommendation for his expert repairs and cleaning rug skills, revealed their everyday ‘fireside’ rug to be a rare and valuable collector’s piece dating from the 16th century!
In July 2010, the Chairman of Liphook In Bloom Mr Terry Burns invited Anas and Sandre of The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd to be on the Judging Panel at this highly competitive and popular event, alongside Petersfield Mayor Cllr Chris Jenner and Haslemere & District Chamber of Business and Commerce President Melissa King.
With glorious weather and the sun shining down on this special day, Anas and Sandre prepared a spectacularly decorative and warm welcome at The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd, to mark the St Georges Day 2010 celebrations, for what has become a regular and eagerly anticipated feature in the Wey Hill calendar of events.
A journy of 6,000 miles over land and sea and three continents, saw a hand-carved oak water wheel gifted to Weyhill In Bloom, by Anas and Sandre of The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd. This iconic and unique piece is now installed in the Hasleway Community Gardens, to highlight the Shottermill area's history of mills and water wheel use.
As the Season's Christmas Festivities began, the Haslemere Educational Museum Team including President: Mr Bernard Coe, Chairman Mr Alan Berry and Curator: Ms Julia Tanner stepped into a Wonderland of Weavings at The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd, to participate in the aptly named 'Haslemere In Stitches Open Weave Event'.
In September 2009, The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd took part in The Haslemere Toolbox, where Haslemere’s Artist In Residence, Printmaker extrordinaire Andrew Morrison, spent 18 months recording the town through its traders and craftsmen – ranging from florists and cobblers to rug weavers and their distinctive collections of tools of trade.
The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd was thrilled to be personally invited to take part in the Haselmere Festival 2009, by its Founder and Chairman Hamish Donaldson DL MBE. This prestigious Surrey event was a wonderful opportunity for Anas and Sandre to share their Rug Specialist skills, Master Rug Craftsman expertise, and Decorative Arts knowledge of hand-woven rugs, carpets, tapestries and decorative embellished pieces as a Cultural Talk entitled: 'A Journey of Discovery for Oriental Rug Weavings Tapestries', that took place in the Lecture Hall at Haslemere Educational Museum.
