A traditionally hand-crafted St George's Day Flag weave in madder-root red wool yarn, especially designed and created by The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd to highlight and celebrate England's Patron Saint's Day on 23rd April each year, has proved a firm favourite with customers, rug visitors, shoppers and The Royal Society of St George alike, who welcomed the return of the piece on display in the Rug Gallery shop window for 2015.
We continue our Weaving Journey of Discovery of Oriental rugs! In part 3, we relay how these weavings reveal an ancient language portrayed through their patterns, designs and motifs, and where this 'woven word' provided an enduring and pictorial form of anecestral traditions and family heritage.
As award-winning rug specialists, The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd is dedicated to the very best in hand-made craftsmanship, and passionate in conserving rug-woven and tapestry and embroidery-crafted pieces. Here, we believe that every hand-woven rug, Oriental carpet and tapestry – whether antique, rare, old or new – is a unique legacy of craftsmanship, and would therefore benefit from a rug specialist appraisal, using our professional Written Rug Valuation Service specialist skills and expertise.
A specially commissioned, hand-crafted plaque created for The Haslemere Coat of Arms Weaving, detailing the weaving’s creation and its sponsors for the mounting and framing, has now been installed next to the piece, which is on permanent public display at Haslemere Educational Museum, for everyone to view.
On the 5th June 2013, HRH The Countess of Wessex honoured Haslemere Educational Museum with a Royal visit, to commemorate the Museum’s 125th Anniversary year. As Corporate Patrons and Funding Sponsors of the Museum, and weavers of the Haslemere Coat of Arms Weaving, now on permanent display at the Museum who are its custodians in perpetuity, Anas and Sandre of The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd were invited to attend this special and private occasion, along with trustees and local dignitaries, to be formally presented to The Countess.
Burrowed away in The Oriental Rug Gallery Ltd’s Atelier, Sandre – the Gallery’s Decorative Woven Arts & Creative Director – has been using her creative design skills to create eye-catching signage that harness the Rug Gallery’s logo and company colours of cream red and black, while also incorporating contact details, business awards, website information and highlighting the huge range of rug services we can provide for our customers.
